I bought my father a golf iron set for his birthday. For as long as I can remember, my father has played golf practically every Sunday afternoon with his friends. That is why I know he will enjoy having a new golf iron set. Even though he loves the game, his thriftiness prevents him from buying new golf clubs, even after his old set wears out. Or, maybe it is because he has come to expect me to buy him a new set for his birthday, Father’s Day, or even Christmas. I guess this is our silent understanding. He begins talking about the last time he had a new golf club set, and how one of his friends just bought the latest Nicklaus or TaylorMade and I my gift shopping has been simplified.
