Growing up my Dad was in the service and we moved a lot.

That meant lots of new and different houses in different places. And early on I noticed that each house, each town, had its own unique design for residential mailboxes.

I learned to appreciate these homey little touches and enjoy the different approaches to handling a necessary function.

In the city we had shiny boxes, built in, while the suburban homes had little mailboxes tacked up next to the door. One apartment building had rows of oblongs little hallway, where people got their mail using keys.

We lived in farm country and, for a while had to travel one-half mile just to send a letter.

I guess you could say that I’ve tracked my comings and goings by the mailboxes I’ve known.

I really want a drawing board for the computer to make my work easier.
