Petrified wood, how does it happen?
Ever since I was a young child I heard about the Badlands Petrified Gardens. I remember it distinctly as one of my young classmates brought a piece of petrified wood to show and tell. It fascinated me then and it fascinates me now. How can a piece of wood turn into a piece of stone? Later on I had a neighbor that came from the South Dakota area and he too brought some petrified wood with him. Someone somewhere has to have an explanation of what happened, but I’ve never been in the right place at the right time to find out what that explanation is.
